Wicked job I just came off. Spent a few days in Vancouver with my buddies Timm and Diane, hey see they just had a anniversary..nice going guys..anyway, we worked together on shooting some houses that another friend did the work on, well his company did, http://www.gemlevy.com/ He wanted to update his website, so gave me a call to do some interiors for him. The mandate is to keep it simple and look for details. Details to show workmanship. I think we did that.
This was hilarious and sure made the day fun. I chanced upon the idea of shoes of grad when I noticed by chance the crazy shoes that were being shown under the grad gowns. Just struck me as something strange, a juxtapose of the situation if you will. So, started shooting at the craziest times. Holding up processions and barging in on intimate moments with family, all with the cry "shoes of grad". I would take only a couple frames and move along before they even knew what happened to them. They all seemed to be smiling as I dashed off to the next round. Sure was fun.
I don't believe it..god I hate this thing. But Rob insisted. He actually loves mr. pg. The icon of the capital of the north. Go figure. This thing once made of wood is now made of fiberglass, and is and has alway been positioned at the junction of the Yellowhead and 97 highways. Welcoming all comers to this amazing place. Well actually he looks as if he is hitchhiking his way out of the place. Due to his size, must be three stories high or more, he is in all the years I remember not been lucky in that area. Getting rides. Rob is almost tall enough to be the next new mr. pg and with all the work he does for Prince George and the campus, maybe he should be the honorary dude. Go Rob!!
Yeah, I mean really. Most of the people in this picture are the people I actually work for. Yup, they sign my PO..frankly I think they look like escapee's from something that is not an academic institution. institution maybe. But well you get my drift on this one. They are gonna kill me for this one..Oh, and Matt, welcome to the asylum..hahhaaaa...Nice hat, think you will fit right in.
This was one of those shots in the moment, wish I woulda seen it a few second earlier. Was in the middle of a conversation as things were sort of dying down around us, and happened to look over this way. Only to see a totally empty staircase, and Marilyn and George in deep talk. Nothing else around them, I don' think I coulda planned this one any better. Got about three frames off real fast, they obviously don't know I am about, and I just really like this shot, and the whole feel to it.
Boy can this guy give a speach. It is not very often at these functions that one can say don't stop. Usually it is like pulling needles out of your eyes listening to these guys go on forever for the betterment of mankind. But this guy really does it, and what he says is for the betterment of us. Powerful dude is this Romeo Dallaire, now senator. Hell this dude could be prime minister. Maybe he should be.
I like doing this gig, have been shooting this for like twenty years or something. Infact I shot the first grad class of seven people. How cool is that. The objective on these shots is to show people having fun, and they must be regional. What happens we find is if we do the shots in this manner, instead of the same ol' boring grad photo, you know with the books in the background and silly square hat on and stuff, that is boring, so we do this fun stuff, the images are sent to the regions where these guys are from and we are finding the art is getting front pages and sometimes full page play, hell that is ad space you can't buy, and promotes the campus to the regions. We also try to show bits of campus or flavor at least of place, so yeah, it is all pretty fun stuff, and what you see here is pretty typical year in and year out. The real great thing about doing this job is that the bosses just let me go with it. So my own thing. Makes it awesome for me. Cuz then it can be all about me.
This is actually nothing to do with Grad, but it was too good to not include here, not sure if they have used it already, hope so. Anyway, it is related to an upcoming story regarding food, and eating local and all that stuff. These people are in the forefront of getting that done on local levels. Not really sure the whole story, actually is not even written yet I think. But anyway, these three showed up, Mandate here was to get a shot of the three of them, happy faces for the article. They showed up with two small carrots, and an apple. Well, and a sense of humour as well. This obviously is not the first shot I took. But this is what I worked up to. Pretty funny really. I really do like this shot. Just has a fun feel to it and can't wait to see where it is used, just hope it is used by now at least somewhere.
