Ahhhh, Mike..he is the ramrod on this one. A story about ash and what it does for the plants..what the hell do I do, and about ten minutes to do it in. One shot was of the whole research crew that worked on this..but this one I liked best and the story is focussed on her, as she is the head researcher on this. I still don't know what I could have done different here.
The place the Ash comes from there was no access and no real time to get there and set this up. There was a pail full of the stuff, that was about it. I always try to tell a story of sorts in these set up shots, but, well, sometimes is just tough. I like the ash coming from her had and the seedling in the other hand though. Just is.
She is dropping ash, yup, black, and greyish soot stuff, and it will be used for seedling and growing stuff. There was just nothing to show here.
RollerGirls,wow..what a bunch.. I had fun shooting them at their practice, they could not really pose for me or anything, they had to get the practise done as they had a meet coming up in a couple days. The only thing they could help out with really was that the alumni were wearing the team jersey, and they just did their drills and such, and I tried to light it with a few small flashes. This place is truly a barn, no light at all, and my magic from the basketball games could not begin to sort this black hole out. High ISO, and small flash. So, yeah, was a struggle but think I got some fun stuff here.
Blue Pine, this lady is an owner of the company and nurse practitioner, that is a real big deal, almost a doctor, I think they do do some surgery, but not as involved as a doc. Pretty awesome we have these people. She was very helpful with the shoot, taken in her office, and had patients waiting. I had done a set up and test before she arrived, so we could get her done in about five minutes. Crazy..yup, lighting here as well. A small flash in back of the window with blue pine on it, with a blue gel, a stroke of genius if you ask me, and used another light stuck in a ring light thingo to give me a nice even look. I like this shot for the time we had, she was very helpful and could turn the smile on like a light switch. Five or ten minutes, done. Work done.
Brenda, well this is just Brenda and I really needed to include her in this batch of stuff, cuz she really hates having her shot taken and sometimes she just looks so awesome. I think it helped that she did not know I was doing this. Besides I know she is going to be looking on here, and it is my blog after all. Can do what I want.
Carving..a very popular course here, just an elective sort of thing, these people will be and are working on a cottonwood canoe, making it from scratch. Making it in traditional ways. Just too bad that the day we had to do this shoot, the head teacher guy, was not available, just the way it goes sometimes. This shot might get redone when he can return.
The two girls, one is the assistant instructor, and we wanted to show hands on stuff here.
Wide open aperture, no depth of field, but some light just kicked in to keep it looking real. I like the feel of these shots.
Shipping..where the rubber meets the road, a university cannot run without mail and shipping and all those services that in the bowels of the place..One light coming from behind the computers to give me some glow to the face. on the lady, a small flash placed just by the screen to hit her face.
head shots..my my how many of those do we have to do in this job. Well I am so glad we get to need some horizontal stuff, as it just breaks things up some. I like that. These are all taken at pretty much the same place using the windows and such for backdrops.
Over the years I have been trying to keep that stuff different, did not want to get to regular and for sure get away from the usual white clean background. There is sort of a policy at the campus to show campus whenever possible. It is a cool place.
Oh, yeah, lets not forget the tech guys..it is them that are the brains behind the wires and making sure all the presentations work. One gig I shot them doing they had a direct feed from Japan, and the two university presidents were shaking hands across the oceans..amazing..these are the dudes that do that stuff..
My original idea here for these guys was to get them in their room, everyone has a room here, and do some corny thing with wires and computers and stuff. Thankfully they were not real comfortable with that, and said we don't really do that stuff anymore, we need to try something else..So, they explained this thing to me, and of course had a vision of a closet full of wires and stuff. Well, you see the closet, a cupboard really, with all that they need. So, two shots here, one that shows the room as it is. Then what I got. Yeah, took maybe thirty minutes, or a bit less, worked fast, had two maybe three lights on this, was fun sculpting this one. Like how it turned out.
Well yeah, you could say that. I have not shown these images that much, or hardly at all actually. Or maybe I put them up somewhere on another blog or whatever, christ I forget. Getting real good at that of late. Forgetting stuff.
Anyway, was at a airshow of sorts a few years back. The usual stuff. These were the snow birds, no, hold it, that is the guys in motorhomes. Oh nevermind. Not sure the motorhome guys could pull this sort of formation gig.
I got these shots, of course in kelowna in the summer it is always nice blue sky, these guys use the lake front as center stage. But when I got the shots home, and looked, I figued there has to be a better way. So, came up with this, and they are so graphic.
Just recently, and that is why I was reminded of them. THE designer used some of these to hang in a clients house. Bigger of course, but they looked really cool. So, thought I would reintroduce them here.
Hope you like them.
Hey, Yoda, that means you man, hope you like'em
Just random stuff someone might, just might like for whatever reason. Nothing earth shaking here, but just want to get some images up has been awhile. Happy Christmas to anyone that does that sort of thing.
